A New Internet Marketing Blog from Sam Beamond

Although I’ve been active in the online marketing space since about 2000, over the past year or two I have really hit it hard.

After recently publishing my first SEO eBook, “Beyond Keywords“, I knew that I wanted to create a blog of some kind to begin writing more about my learning, experiences and successes. It was apparent that here were a couple of angles I could take to this project.

Number one, I’ve been learning a lot lately about how branding, particularly in the online space, is shifting be more personable. Instead of hiding behind a logo, its becoming more about putting your name/photo where your mouth is. This approach would put my blog at sambeamond.com and feature photos of me and topics about me and how I fit into Internet Marketing etc…

The second option would be to come up with a name for the site relative to its focus, design a logo and buy the domain. Immediately the idea of using the blog as an extension of my LinkedIn Group “Internet Marketing Source” came to mind, I already had a logo and following, BUT, this approach wasn’t so personable.

After more research, I finally decided on the latter of the two options because I already had established a following on LinkedIn, a logo, but more importantly for the SEO benefit. Utilizing the term Internet Marketing Source in both the url and multiple times throughout the blog will help search rankings. The one caveat to this was that the optimal URL internetmarketingsource.com was already taken, so chose to go with the .net version. I’m ok with that since .net is somewhat related to my field anyway.

As far as the personable approach goes, I with be taking the Darren Rowse (also known as problogger.net) angle and dotting my mugshot around the blog and will always write in the first person. That is, from me to you. I hope that ok with you :)

From my LinkedIn Group, here’s what the group and subsequently this blog, is all about…

“While there are many SEO, SEM, social media, blogger, email marketer, affiliate marketer and web developer professionals etc. out there, these practices in themselves are not the solution to marketing a company, product or service on the web. Members of this group understand that a successful online strategy encompasses all aspects of these online channels to achieve the marketing objective. Different levels of each aspect are required depending on industry and audience. This group aims to bring professionals together in these marketing fields, to learn from each other, exchange ideas and share real life success stories from the field. Join today and broaden your knowledge of internet marketing.”
