Recently, I have found myself explaining my blog posting strategy both in person and on various places online. Knowing that the last writeup wont be the last time I explain what I do, I thought it would be good to write a post that I could reference in the future.
That said, here’s an outline to my blog posting strategy and how I make the most of my time by optimize how and when I post.
I’m currently sitting at a two blog posts per week schedule. That’s about the limit I have time for right now. I believe this same strategy can be applied whether you post once per month or once per day though.
Most days I learn something new or have an idea for a blog post, when I get the idea I open up my WordPress admin panel and create a new post with the title and any other tidbits I can come up with quickly and save it as a draft. That’s it for that moment.
Now, when I get some writing time, I can jump into the drafts and begin filling out the content, as time allows. I can usually finish up 2 or 3 blog posts during a typical blog writing time frame.
For my blog images, I generally populate those in batches, knowing that batch production is a time-saver regardless what you are producing. Large quantities at one time, always makes for better production times in the long run.
I locate blog images using sources such as www.sxc.hu or Flickr or sometimes sometimes my own.
Finally, I schedule my blog posts to publish usually midweek and before 9am. That way, the posting time is in sync with my feedburner schedule (sent at 9am CST) and my blog subscribers get the fresh content soon after it is published.
As a final step, once I receive my copy of the blog post by feedburner email, I click through and tweet the post. I usually tweet the post a second time in the afternoon, to increase the visibility of my content while not too often where it might fall into line with typical spammers.
Hope you’ll find some use from my blog posting strategy, have something to add? Drop it in the comments below.
